City of Cape Town’s Metro Police Officers on Wednesday made a 1 million-Rand drug bust on the N2 near the Engen Garage.

Three German men aged between 26 and 51-years-old and an Italian woman aged 31-years-old were en route to Knysna in a camper van when they were pulled over by Metro Police officers, following a tip-off.

Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith said it is alleged that the suspects are linked to a European syndicate operating in South Africa, during our annual rave season.

Smith said upon searching the vehicle they found hashish, cocaine and two wine bottles filled with suspected liquid MDMA with an estimated street value of R500 000. Drugs were hidden in various concealed compartments in the camper van and some were hidden inside coke bottles specially designed to have hidden concealed compartments.

He added that the interrogation of one of the suspects led Metro Police to a premises in Muzineberg where they found more drugs including two litres of liquid MDMA, cocaine and hashish with an estimated street value of R750 000.

“It is alleged that the liquid MDMA is bottled in Amsterdam and then transported all over the world inside sealed Champagne bottles” Smith added.
