Industry professionals have criticised Eskom for what they say is the parastatal's mis-information of the country's power situation for this year.

As the holiday season draws to an end and businesses reopen the demand for electricity is expected to increase again.

Andrew Etzinger of  Eskom says the power utility worked over the holiday period to run tests and conduct maintenance.

She added that they have about 27,000 megawatts available  due to two reasons, one of them being that they are busy with a lot of maintenance which will come to an end on Monday.
