MEC Fritz to take a hard stance on parents who neglect their children

Western Cape MEC of Social Development Albert Fritz said his department will this year take a strong stance against parents who neglect their children especially at holiday resorts and beaches.

This is after over 1 000 children were separated from their families on New Year’s Day.

Over 70 children spent time at various police stations across the province as they had not been identified by their parents.

Fritz said what we will now do is discuss this at the Child Justice forum where we are going to propose parents that are negligent to be charged with child neglect.

“Charging them will make them suffer some consequence for their irresponsibility during the festive season” Fritz added.
