Four men have been arrested and charged with kidnapping in
Diepsloot.
The men between the ages of 28 and 34, kidnapped a women
with her 8 month old daughter after they offered her a lift from Zimbabwe to
Johannesburg last Thursday.
Police Spokesperson Warrant Officer Daniel Mavimbela said
they were kept in a shack for 5 days without any food and the daughter was
diagnosed with dehydration.
The accused is expected to appear in the Randburg
magistrate court soon.
Mavimbela said the alleged kidnappers apparently called the
woman's husband and threatened that unless he paid ransom, he would never see
his wife and daughter. He could not afford it.
He alerted the police on Tuesday afternoon.
Mavimbela said a tactical intervention carried out by the
Diepsloot Police Tracing Unit led to the apprehension of the suspects in
extension one.
Mavimbela said the police went on to rescue the baby and
her mother in extension six.
Mavimbela said the two were taken for a medical examination
by paramedics.
Mavimbela said the child was described as dehydrated and
put on oxygen momentarily.
Mavimbela said the mother was reportedly fed with only cold
drink since the kidnapping last Thursday.
Mavimbela said the police officers, out of their own
pockets, ensured that the baby and mother were nourished properly as
recommended by the medics before transporting the family to their home in
Brits.
Mavimbela said the suspects will be charged with
kidnapping.
“They are expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate's
