Lusanda Bill
14 January 2015

Former Member of Parliament and stalwart of the liberation struggle Nelson Diale will be given a provincial official funeral.

President Jacob Zuma has also ordered for the National Flag to be flown at half-mast in Limpopo on Sunday.

Diale joined the African National Congress in 1964 and spent eight years on Robben Island.  He retired from Parliament after serving on many committees last year.

Presidential Spokesperson Mac Maharaj said Ntate Diale was a courageous freedom fighter who sacrificed a great deal of his life to the liberation struggle, fighting for freedom of the oppressed and equal opportunities for all.

Maharaj said the Limpopo Province lost two key leaders in the past week. The MEC for Education Thembisile Nwendamutshwu also passed away on the 9th of January 2015, and by virtue of being an MEC, will be accorded a Provincial Official Funeral.
