The Western Cape Department of Education says it is ready for the start of the 2015 academic year on Wednesday.

The WCED has currently enrolled 35 535 Grade R learners and 109 000 Grade 1 learners.

Four schools will be opening their doors for the first time this year in Stellenbosch, Brakenfell, Mfuleni and Wellington.

Ministerial Spokesperson Jessica Shelver said in terms of the preparations on Wednesday textbooks have been already ordered from last year, with the majority of the textbooks being delivered today. Arrangements for desks and chairs for learners have been made.

“Going back to school for the first time can be an interesting time for both parents and learners and our advice will be to treat it like a new adventure by focusing on all the positive aspects that your child will experience at school” Shelver added.
