A 47-year-old German tourist was rescued after she was caught in strong rip current while swimming at Cape St Francis main beach.

National Sea Rescue Institute Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said on arrival on scene it was found that the German female had been assisted out of the water by family members as well as members from the tour group that she was with.

Lambinon said she was on the beach suffering breathing difficulties and near drowning symptoms

“NSRI medics treated the patient and monitored her condition while awaiting paramedics to arrive. She was taken to hospital in a stable condition and will make a full recovery” Lambinon added.
