A taxi and a car collided in Vereeniging in Gauteng

Paramedics said a man died and several others were injured when a taxi and a car collided on the R82 near Vereeniging in Gauteng on Wednesday.

ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said eight people were injured in the accident, among them a 10-year-old boy airlifted to hospital with critical injuries.

Meiring said ER24 paramedics from the balbarns arrived on scene and found the taxi lying off the road on the veldt. On inspection paramedics found the lifeless body of the taxi driver lying next to his vehicle. Unfortunately the man had already succumbed to his severe injuries.”

Meiring continues to say: “A ten-year-old boy was also found lying next to the taxi in a critical condition. Once treated the patient was airlifted by the Air24 helicopter to Baragwanath hospital for further treatment.”

Meiring said the remaining seven patients were found to have sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate. Paramedics treated the patients for their injuries and thereafter transported them to various hospitals including Mediclinic Vereeniging.”

Lastly Meiring said: “The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.”
