The African National Congress in the Western Cape has called for an investigation into the conduct of City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member JP Smith.

This follows allegations that Smith tried to prevent the minstrels from marching with their trophies after the weekend’s Cap Town Minstrels prize giving ceremony in Athlone.

ANC’s Marius Fransman says it is unacceptable that an elected politician illegally take over the power of peace officers and abuse appointed security staff of the city.

He added that they have tried to throw a sort of court order but it didn’t work then they wanted to find way to arrest as well as we were fearing that the Minstrels were even be disrupted.

“This is unacceptable, this councilor must be investigated for abusing the privileges and authority of his office against the community,” Fransman said.
