City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith says the 2014 statistical review for the City of Cape Town’s Metro Police shows a vast improvement in operational effectiveness.

Drug arrests have increased from 1 948 in 2013 to 2 048 in 2014 and firearm confiscations have increased from 49 to 82.

In a statement the city says enforcement agencies have increased the level of visible policing, disruptive operations and stabilisation operations.

Smith said teams we’ve been assembled in our specialised units the gang and task force.

The training we’ve implemented and specialist’s technology workshops that we’ve added to intensify our operations.

“Due to the great work being done by all Police across the province the rate at which arrests and firearm confiscation has significantly improved over the past years” Smith added.
