Four men alleged to have been on their way to poach rhino in the Timbavati area in Limpopo have been arrested, police said on Friday.

The group was stopped on Thursday night by a security guard who realised that something was amiss and called for reinforcements to expose the suspects.

Colonel Ronel Otto said: “When they opened the boot they found two suspects hiding inside the boot of the vehicle. The police was then called in and when we continued the search of the vehicle we also found hunting rifles a silencer, hunting knives as well as an axe.”

Otto continued to say: “The four suspects were then arrested and they will then appear in the Hoedpsruit Magistrates’ Court on Monday on charges of conspiracy to commit rhino poaching as well as possession of unlicensed fire arm and ammunition.”
