Gordon’s Bay man arrested for possession of Abalone

On Tuesday police members from the Cape Town K9 Unit responded to information of a vehicle allegedly transporting abalone from Buffelsajag to Cape Town on the N2.

Police spotted a silver BMW and pulled the vehicle off the road.

FC van Wyk said: “Upon searching the vehicle the members recovered 15 bags of shacked abalone. The driver a 26-year-old man from Gordon’s Bay, was arrested and taken to Somerset West SAPS for detention where the abalone was counted by officials from the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.”

Van Wyk continued saying: “It amounted to 1958 units with a street value estimated at approximately R 1 million.’
