The Western Cape MEC of Health
Nomafrench Mbombo on Wednesday embarked on an oversight visit to the
Khayelitsha, Mitchell’s Plain and Lenteguer hospitals.
MEC Mbombo said socio-economic
circumstances and the quadruple burden of diseases still pose a major challenge
in the health facilities. She added that much has been done by the department to fully implement the Healthcare 2030 plan and the major principles of the National Development Plan.
Ministerial Spokesperson Siviwe Gwarube said: “One of the things we also noticed on our visit is that ever since the Khayelitsha hospital we managed to bring down the number of trauma cases per month or the deaths of trauma cases from 22 to only 4 a month.”
Gwarube continued saying: “We
are also quite impressed with the Mitchell’s Plain hospital and the new
psychiatric wing that they are now using. We also managed to see scanner
machine which is revolutionizing treatment and diagnoses processes in the
hospital.”
