The South African Municipal Workers Union in the Cape Metro has called for a meeting regarding the Extended Public Works Programme to seek a mandate on a possible strike by workers.

The EPWP workers are not happy with issues ranging from unfair discrimination, nepotism, lose of benefits and favoritism.

Samwu Regional Chairperson Jonathan Krakri said we are demanding actually permanent employment because of the exploitation of these EPWP people who are performing jobs of the permanent nature, that are on the EP staff establishment.

Kraki continues to say it is exploitation in each work form because these people are looking for quality jobs, permanent employment and the city do have vacancies yet they are exploiting our people in the work form.
