The African National Congress in the Western Cape is calling for an urgent intervention in Oudtshoorn.

The municipality has been in financial and political crisis for months with Eskom threatening to cut electricity supply due to unpaid debt.

ANC Spokesperson Cobus Grobler said trust in good governance needs to be restored in the town.

Grobler said the Minister of Cooperative Governance, Pravin Gordon must step in and intervene in a drastic way; he has to shut down the council and dissolve it.

Grobler said he needs to do what is necessary to get that council functional, to keep the services going and to restore trust of the residents.
