An accident this morning on the N2 Raapenberg road in Cape Town left 2 people dead and 22 others injured after two taxis collided each other.

ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring said when ER24 paramedics arrived on scene, they found two wrecked taxis lying in the middle of the road. A third taxi lay in the river a few metres away from the road.

Meiring added that on assessment, paramedics discovered two bodies trapped inside the taxi that lay in the river. A third body lay floating a few metres away from the taxi. Unfortunately all three patients had already succumbed to their severe injuries.

He emphasized that 22 other patients were found scattered around on scene, their injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

“Paramedics began their treatment of the patients, providing some of the patients with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, all the patients were transported by ambulance to various facilities including Groote Schuur Hospital for further observations. ” Meiring said.

Exact details to the cause of the collision will remain the subject of a police investigation.
