Eight prisoners escape from Modimolle prison

Eight prisoners have escaped from the Modimolle prison in Limpopo.

Police Spokesperson Ronnel Otto said according to information received is that the suspects escaped using a hack saw and cut through the roof.

Otto said police are now searching for the suspects and circumstances surrounding the escape is being investigated.

Otto said the 8 suspects that escaped were waiting trial prisoners for stock theft as well as house breaking, house robbery, possession of dangerous weapons and drugs.

Otto said at this stage none of them have been rearrested as we do have a unit out searching for them.

“We are appealing to members of the community who might have any information on their whereabouts to contact the nearest police station for us to follow up on this” Otto added.
