Firefighters are continuing to try and contain the fire which remains out of control in the Banoek Valley and Helderberg Basin.

The fire started in the Jonkershork Valley on Monday and firefighters have been working to try and contain the fire so that it does not spread to Stellenbosch.

The fire has also resulted in the Jonkershoek Nature Reserve being closed.

Cape Nature Spokesperson Justin Lawrence said on Tuesday the Firefighters conducted control burn to keep the fire from spreading to Stellebosch and this was successful at the time, where there is no point under threat.

"We have 200 firefighters here and we will monitor the area throughout the day.” Lawrence added.
