Western Cape MEC of Transport
and Public Works Donald Grant on Monday visited the Champman’s Peak Drive to
assess the damage that the recent fires in the South Peninsula has caused.
The fire which started last
week Sunday in Muizenberg destroyed hectares of vegetation, destroyed eight
structures and resulted in about five-hundred people evacuated from their
homes.
Ministerial Spokesperson
Siphesihle Dube said the drive suffered some main impact resulting from the
fire which include excessive loss of vegetation, some release of some
previously trapped and accumulated rock debris as well as some fracturing on
some rocks on the slopes as well as on the rock face.
Dube said the concessionaire
will be taking all necessary precautions to ensure continued safety on the
drive.
