Western Cape MEC of Community Safety Dan Plato has described the incident which three paramedics were robbed at gunpoint while trying to save a girl’s life as disgraceful.

It is believed that the ER24 paramedics were busy trying to stabilise the girl in the ambulance in Khayelitsha when the suspects opened the door and pointed a gun at them.

In a statement MEC Plato said these individuals placed a higher value on cellphones than somebody’s life.

Ministerial Spokesperson Greg Wagner says “the Minister has said thankfully that they did not resist and were able to continue stabilising the young girl despite being robbed of their cell phones at gunpoint during the middle of responding to an emergency call.

The Minister has asked anyone who has information on these criminals must please report them to the local police station in Kayelitsha or directly to his office on 021- 483- 4332, Wagner added.
