President Jacob Zuma has appointed Minister of Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa as acting Minister of Public Service and Administration following the tragic death of Minister Collins Chabane.

Minister Chabane together with his two body guards died in an accident after a truck tried to make a U-turn in the middle of the highway on the N1 near Polokwane.

The driver of the truck was arrested and is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.

Presidential Spokesperson Mac Maharj says President Zuma has ascended his condolences to the staff of the department of Public Services and Administration who have lost their second Minister in a space of short time.

The pervious Public Service and Administration Minister Ms Roy Padayachie passed away in 2012.

We are trying to come to terms with Minister Chabane’s untimely passing and that of his protector’s sergeants Lesiba Sekele and sergeant Lawrence Lentsoane, Maharaj added.
