Power utility Eskom said the
contractors at Medupi Power station have started the process of disciplinary
action against workers who embarked on an illegal strike on Wednesday.
Eskom Spokesperson Khulu
Phasiwe said so far about one-thousand workers have been fired and the number
is expected to increase as the process continues.
Phasiwe says it is important
to note that of the 14 000 people who are working at the Medupi Power station
many of them are not Eskom employees, they are actually employed by the
contractor which is why the contractor is taking disciplinary actions against them.
Phasiwe added that so far,
just over a thousand people have already been fired.
