Over the past weekend the City
of Cape Town’s Metro Police arrested 76 suspects on various charges including
drunk driving, possession of drugs and possession of dangerous weapons.
With over 45 motorists
arrested for drunk driving Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP
Smith said government needs to have a serious conversation on how to better
deal with drunk driving.
Smith added that officers also
arrested a 31 suspects for drugs possession assault and possession of dangerous
weapons, vehicle theft and confiscated quantities of tik, dagga and mandrax
worth about R1 500
"We had one incident in
Kraaifontien, the officers found the suspect in possession of 100grams of uncut
tik with an estimated street value of more than R140 000. They also
impounded a Volkswagen golf that he was driving” Smith said.
