Amcu and Anglo Platinum colludes on retrenchment

The National Union of Mineworkers is at loggerheads Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union after it accused Anglo American Platinum of scheming with the union.

This as Anglo Platinum is planning to retrench about four-hundred and seventy-four workers.

NUM’s Rustenburg Regional Coordinator Mxhasi Sithethi said in 2013 AMCU decided to embark on a strike misleading workers around retrenchment.

Sithethi said when people are about to be retrenched, you do not start striking because retrench means that the employer or capital is not in need of the labour, therefore leading the workers into a strike is really suicidal.

Sithethi said they concluded an agreement after a two week strike with Anglo Platinum agreeing that they are going to be a reclamation process, meaning some workers are going to be absorbed into the company to reclaim some machinery in the workstation.
