MEC Fritz condemns recent attack on social workers in Khayelitsha

Western Cape MEC of Social Development Albert Fritz has condemned the recent attack of two social workers in Khayelitsha.

The two social workers were conducting a home visit in the area when protesters approached their car and started throwing stones at them.

MEC Fritz said it is unacceptable that that social workers come under attack from the very community they are meant to serve.

Fritz said we really want to bring the services of the department of social development to where people need the services the most. Now if our social workers are going to be attacked in those areas we will seriously consider withdrawing our services from those vulnerable areas.

“We also want to call on community members to go and report these people who are attacking service delivery agents to the police so that they can be punished and sent to jail” Fritz added.
