Eastern Cape police have managed to arrest a twenty-four-year-old suspect in Butterworth after he was found in possession of unlicensed firearm.

Police Spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha said the firearm has been sent for ballistic testing to establish whether it was used in any crimes around the area.

Captain Manatha said they went to his shack at Bugeni informal settlement in Butterworth where they found him with a firearm with two rounds of ammunition.

Manatha said the suspect has since been charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The suspect will be appearing in court later today.
