The Western Cape government is aiming to increase the province’s tourism sector by 65%. This came out of a workshop held earlier this week between the provincial government and the private sector.

MEC of Economic Opportunities Alan Winde said there are certain proposals that government is working on to grow the economy and create jobs.

Ministerial Spokesperson Bronwynne Jooste said Minister Winde is saying that at this stage these are proposals which would look to increase the amount of formal jobs in the industry and they are a range of options that are been looked at right now.

“This includes a focus on higher end travellers as well as a strong focus on new media and how we can use that to grow the tourism sector in the Western Cape.” Jooste added.
