The Democratic Alliance says the new VISA regulations on travelling to South Africa and the Western Cape in particular will have dire consequences.

DA Spokesperson on Economic Opportunities, Tourism and Agriculture Beverly Schafer says the amended VISA regulations brought into effect last year are clearly bad for the economy.

Schafer said the unabridged certificates that are coming into effect on the 15th of June we believe will have a severe impact on not only the tourism industry but on jobs, which will result in a decline in our tourism numbers.

Schafer said we again call on Malusi Gigaba to actually relook at the amended VISA regulations and to assess the impact of the unabridged certificates on tourism for South Africa and the Western Cape.
