The Democratic Alliance has filed an urgent court application against the SABC regarding its withdrawal of live coverage of its Federal Congress taking place in Port Elizabeth this weekend.

DA Parliamentary leader Mmusi Maimane and veteran Members of Parliament Wilmot James will be battling each other this weekend to become DA Leader.

DA National Spokesperson Phumizile Van Damme said the DA has filed papers calling at the South Guateng High Court.

Van Damme said we believe that the SABC is a public broadcaster, publicly funded and the DA’s congress is an event of national importance enough to be broadcast on the public broadcaster.

However the SABC has denied this stating that it will be broadcasting the congress of its 24hour DStv channel.
