The Democratic Alliance has called on of Finance Nhlanhla Nene to reject the Department of Basic Education’s 2015/16 Annual Performance Plan as it does not put the child first.

DA MP of Basic Education Annette Lovemore said the success of the departments plans must be measured by how successful the DBE has benefited at providing the education of the child, front and centre.

Lovermore added that Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga has to give every child in South Africa access to a quality education.

“Motshekga’s plans for next five years must reflect that, they do not put the learner first, for an example there are no targets for a teacher in every classroom and there are no targets for every child being able to read.” Lovemore said.
