Eight people died in an accident in Swellendam

Eight passengers travelling in a Correctional Services vehicle died this morning on the N2 Highway in Swellendam.

The accident involved a truck, bakkie and the correctional services vehicle. Two other people were injured.

Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said in the correctional services vehicle, eight officials died and three others were injured.

Africa said the N2 currently closed for traffic due to this gruesome incident and the fact that the forensic and South African Police Services are still busy with their in-depth investigation.
