Funding for NGOs reaches R1-billion in the WC

The Western Cape Department of Social Development has broken the one-billion-Rand mark in funding for NGOs.

MEC Albert Fritz said in a statement that this is significant in a time when many NGO’s are experiencing a funding crisis due to poor global economic conditions, and other state institutions increasingly failing them by withdrawing funding.

MEC Fritz said we are always accused that we do not do enough funding for NGOs and this is an indication that we are very serious in seeing NGOs as our partners in service delivery to our communities.

“We want to emphasis this point that NGOs must please be accountable for the money that government gives them and that they need to make sure that money does not get misused or disappears” Fritz added.
