Western Cape MEC of Community Safety Dan Plato has called for a full briefing by the South African Police Service Provincial Management on the functionality of police stations during load shedding.

MEC Plato in a statement said he is concerned by recent media reports that only 30% of SAPS stations countrywide have electricity generators, and that radio communications can be interrupted by prolong power outages.

Ministerial Spokesperson Ewald Botha says earlier this year a number of police stations reported that during load shedding at times some of their radios do not work and other stations reporting that they do not have power diesel when its load shedding.

Both added that MEC Plato appreciates that according to the strategic plan 22 out of 48 generators to be supplied by SAPS are earmarked for the Western Cape.
