NUM pleased with Petra Diamonds retrenchment agreement

The National Union of Mineworkers has expressed its satisfaction at the conclusion of a retrenchment agreement with Petra Diamonds.

This follows a dispute which was referred to the CCMA for unfair retrenchments back in February.

NUM in a statement said the attempts by the company to forcefully remove its members from its premises had failed, following complaints of alleged exploitation by Petra Diamonds.

NUM Rustenburg Regional Organizer Comfort Xhala said Two weeks basic wage/salary for every completed year of service. One month salary for all employees with less than two-year service with the company as severance pay. Accrued Leave, Cheque or annual bonus or pro rata payment, All accrued benefits, One month pay in lieu of the notice, One additional month as ex-gratia payment.

Xhala added that the parties have agreed that Distribution Employee Trust benefits will proceed from the 31st of December of each year until 2017.
