The African National Congress in the Western Cape has called for Democratic Alliance councillor Willie Jaftha to be investigated for his alleged involvement with gangs in Cape Town.

This follows Jaftha’s letter which he submitted during argument in mitigation of sentence in the trial of 17 convicted gangsters. In the letter he requested the court to give convicted murder Reyaaz Dennis a lenient sentence.

ANC’s Rhoda Bazier said ANC has consistently questioned the ease of which the DA cuddles and protects the gangs in the city by paying them and ensuring that they stay in business.

Bazier said it is clear to us, the ANC, that there is a clear relationship between the gangs the HL’s and the DA, while the blood is spilling in the Cape Flats between rival gangs.

“We see that the gangsters have got access to weapons and ammunition and they of cause buy it with money that has been given by the City of Cape Town, where they get tender processes and huge amounts of money.” Bazier added.
