The African National Congress in the Western Cape has welcomed the improvement overall of municipal reports for the past financial year.

Auditor General Kimi Makwethu on Wednesday presented to Parliament the results stating that 17 municipalities and municipal entities achieved clean audits.

The Western Cape, Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal are the three top performing provinces with the most municipalities with clean audits.

ANC’s Cobus Grobler said it is good to do the ticking of the boxes with book keeping and it looks all well and there is no problem there, but the real issue for municipalities are services it renders to its people.

Grobler added that especially the poor people that live in poverty and they have inferior services there.

“How do we get to those people to help them? That is the real test.” Grobler concluded.
