At least 4 people killed and 8 injured in a taxi collision

At least four people were killed and eight others were left in a critical condition after a taxi overturned on thr3 R103 near Diana Street in Vosloorus this morning.

ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said paramedics from numerous services arrived on the accident where they found occupants of a taxi scattered across the road.

It is understood that the occupants were ejected when the driver of the taxi allegedly lost control over the vehicle and it overturned multiple times.

Vermaak said, paramedics found that four people sustained fatal injuries and there was nothing they can do for them.

Eight people including two children believed to be 8 and 9 years old, were critically injured.

Vermaak added that, ER24’s medical helicopter along with another medical helicopter was called to airlift the two injured children from the scene.

Majority of the critically injured patients sustained severe fractures and suspected head injuries.

Vermaak said, it is understood that, at least 18 people were in the taxi at the time of the collision.

Patients were later transported to various hospitals for further treatment.

The exact cause to the incident is not yet known and will be investigated by the local authorities.
