The Congress of South African
Trade Unions in the North West and DENOSA are worried about the critical
challenges facing the community service nurses as they complete their studies.
At end of year Community
services nurses are expected to perform their contract obligations with the
Department of Health and later are told that there are no vacancies to be
filled.
They are told to go seek jobs
somewhere outside the North West.
COSATU Provincial secretary
Solly Phetoe said we are calling for the employment of all the student nurses
that have concluded their studies as well as those who are expected to conclude
their studies by the end of June and the end of 2015.
Phetoe added that they have a
responsibility to make sure that those workers when they are in the process of
their studies they are allowed to do their work, they are allowed to do
community service, they are allowed to do all their work in terms of their
contract obligations, but they must also be paid.
