The Democratic Alliance leader, Mmusi Maimane in a statement
said the unlawful decision on Monday to allow Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir
to depart South Africa, despite a clear High Court ruling prohibiting it, is an
affront to the Constitution and the principles on which it is based.
In allowing Al-Bashir to leave the
country, the government isn not only in contempt of court for disregarding the
High Court’s ruling, but also in violation of the international law, Maimane
added in the statement.
Spokesperson for the DA leader,
Mabine Seabe said yesterday the DA leader, Mmusi Maimane wrote to the Speaker of
the National Assembly, requesting a debate of national importance, relating to
President Omar al-Bashir being allowed to leave the country despite court
order.
Seabe said we learnt this morning, in the National Assembly Programming Committee that the speaker has heard our request and that debate will be held next week Tuesday on the 23 June 2015.
