The Department of Health has confirmed that the country is not experiencing a shortage of ARV medication.

This as the country has been experiencing a shortage of some medicines in the public and private health sectors due to a lack of active pharmaceutical ingredients globally.

The department said it will be sourcing drugs in short supply outside the country as souring them locally has created problems.

The ministry’s Joe Maila said they found that the best thing to do is make sure that we source whatever items we experiencing a shortage of in South Africa else where in the world so that can ensure that we are sticking our facilities.

“In the event that a particular item is not necessarily available to, we have been robbed that alternative might be provided in order for our patients.” Maila added.
