The Federation of Unions of South Africa is strongly opposed to the extraordinary high tariff increase that Eskom had requested.

FEDUSA said that it is aware of the crisis facing Eskom and understands that the utility needs investments to enhance the situation and minimise the negative impact that this crisis can have on the country as a whole.

FEDUSA general secretary Dennis George said, the increase in Eskom tariffs would affect workers and the poor directly and have a significant negative impact on the economy, job creation and inclusive growth.

George added that FEDUSA submitted their comment to NERSA to implicate that FEDUSA is totally opposed to the reopening application of Eskom.

“In this application Eskom is asking for a 25.3% increase. This high increase is going to create more trouble for workers, consumers and South Africa.” George concluded.
