Investigation into the death of eight people in Khayelitsha underway

Cape Town police are continuing to investigate the cause of the death of eight people in Khayelitsha on Sunday.

It is believed that the eight people died when a metal staircase collapsed at Osis a popular tarven in Makaza.

Police spokesperson Andre Traut said six people died on the scene and two people were transported to hospital.

Traut said the vehicle that was transporting the two was involved in an accident and they died. About ten people were treated for injuries on the scene.

“The circumstances are being investigated and a death inquest docket as well as a culpable homicide case has been opened” Traut added.
