Commander Brigadier Vuyisile Ncata has urged communities to report all cases of
corruption and extortion to arrest the perpetrators, this comes after a 37 year
old constable was arrested for corruption and extortion.
It is alleged that on 01 June 2015 the member attended to a complaint of Domestic Violence.
The suspect was not arrested,
but instead the Police member told the suspect he will sort out the matter for
him and demanded money as payment.
Captain FC Van Wyk said The
Police officer was allegedly paid R500 on the same day. On 08 June 2015 the
Police Officer allegedly arrested the suspect but did not document his
particulars in the SAPS registers, and instead demanded R2000 from the suspect
where-after he was released.
Van Wyk added that the suspect
did not have the full amount requested and offered to pay the money on a later
date, but instead reported the matter to the DPCI.
“A trap was set for the Police
Officer to meet him in at the Police Station, yesterday where the cash would be
handed over to him. The 37-year-old Police Officer was immediately arrested and
is in custody.” Van Wyk said.
He will appear in court next
week.
