R2K concerned about lack of openness in Inspector General of Intelligence interviews

The Right 2 Know campaign yesterday walked out of interviews for the position of Inspector General of Intelligence because of their concerns with one of the candidates Cecil Burgess.

R2K Spokesperson Murray Hunter said Burgess was previously the Chairperson of the Committee that is now interviewing him and he has failed to table the committee’s annual reports to Parliament on time.

Hunter said we are objective to the fact that the process has been so secretive with such a lack of openness.

“We are worried that this means that the person appointed to the watchdog is not going to be a credible person that is why we worked out” Hunter added.
