SACP concerned about protest action which leads to closure of hospitals

The South African Communist Party has raised its concern regarding the recent closure of public hospitals due to violent protest action in the Eastern Cape.

In a statement the SACP cautioned protesting communities that any criminal act like closing of hospitals, schools, and burning of public property delegitimizes any genuine demands they may have.

SACP Provincial Spokesperson Siyabonga Mdodi said there is no demand that can justify anyone denying the right to life and health of a person, because some of the people that go to the hospitals are at risk of losing their lives as a result of closure of hospitals.

Mdodi added that public violence and damage to property cannot be a way of expressing anger or a demand.
