Today Education MEC Debbie Schafer and Transport and Public Works MEC Donald Grant will be visiting new Khanya Primary School building in Phillippi which is to be completed at the end of the month, with learners moving into their new school premises at the beginning of the third term.

The learners have been temporarily accommodated at former Buckingham Primary School in Mitchell’s Plain since 2006.

Demand for schooling in the area and high enrolment meant that the current premises became inadequate to accommodate the growing number of learners.

Ministerial spokesperson Siphesihle Dube says today, MEC Grant and MEC Schafer will be visiting the site of the new Khanya Primary School in Phillippi.

The visit forms part of many series of infrastructure the MEC’s will be doing across the province at construction sites as part of the school projects, Dube added.
