The Social Justice Coalition of the Makhaza Branch will today be embarking on a protest march demanding the Osi’s Place license to be revoked.

This is after eight people, six of them teenagers died after a metal staircase railing collapsed.

SJC’s Chumile Sali said the management of the tavern should have taken precautionary steps to ensure the safety of all the customers.

A memorial service for the victims was held in Khayelitsha on Sunday.

Sali said “we are calling on the heads in charge to revoke the Osawa Tavern’s liquor licence”

Sali added that there are underage teenagers, under 18 year old, who normally go and buy liquor and the owner allows them.

“Also the fact that there was an overcrowding and it has been said that the owner fired a gunshot.” Sali concluded.
