A woman died and another
injured in an accident involving a light motor vehicle in KwaZulu-Natal.
It is believed that the driver
of the light motor vehicle lost control causing it to collide with a pedestrian
and rolled down an embankment.
ER24 Spokesperson Russel
Meiring said ER24 paramedics, along with fire services, responded to the scene
and on arrival they found the crumpled vehicle on the D706 road parallel to the
highway. A lifeless body of a female lay further up the embankment.
Meiring added that paramedics
rushed over to the patient and found that she already succumbed to her fatal
injuries. Nothing more could be done for the patient and she was declared dead.
It is understood that the
deceased had been hit by the vehicle while attempting to cross the highway.
He also added that when
paramedics assessed the patient in the light motor vehicle, they found that the
female patient had sustained serious injuries to her neck chest and leg.
“Rescue services had to use
the jaws-of-life equipment in a 45 minute operation to remove a large branch
that had fallen onto the vehicle, as well as to remove the roof of the vehicle
to gain access to the patient” Meiring said.
The exact details to the cause
of the accident will remain the subject of a police investigation.
