A woman in her 20’s was killed and a man seriously injured yesterday after their vehicle collided with a tree on the N12 Road near Stilfontein, North West Province.

ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring, said ER24 paramedics responded to the scene, and on their arrival, the found the light motor vehicle off onto the side of the road. Two bodies, a male and female lay a few metres away from the vehicle.

Meiring said paramedics assessed the patients and found that the female had sustained a severe, fatal injury to her head. Unfortunately nothing more could be done for the patient and she was declared dead.

“The male patient was found to have sustained serious injuries to his head and chest. Paramedics treated the patient and provided him with advanced life support interventions. He was thereafter transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment” Meiring said.

Meiring added that it is understood that the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to collide with a tree and roll multiple times. Both patients were then ejected from the vehicle.

While paramedics were dealing with the first collision, a second collision occurred in the same place due to the debris in the road. Fortunately both occupants escaped injury.

The exact details surrounding the cause of the incident will remain the subject of a police investigation.
