Five people have been killed south of Johannesburg when a vehicle caught alight early this morning at Nasrec and Rand Show roads.

It is believed that the driver lost control of the vehicle.

ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said when ER24 paramedics and other services arrived on scene they found the vehicle on its side lying in a bush. The vehicle was well alight.

Bodasing said Fire and Rescue Services extinguished the fire. One person was found close by to the completely burnt out car and four were found in the vehicle.

“Unfortunately there was nothing paramedics could do for them. All of them were sadly declared dead” Bodasing added.

The exact details to the cause of the accident will remain the subject of a police investigation.
